Just purchased this Nitro and found the drivers side door lock only operates manually, meaning I have to use the keyed lock on the door or pulling/pushing the lock pin on the inside of the door. Pressing either the FOB button or the door lock switchs has no effect on the drivers side lock.

I can't lock or unlock my car doors and hatch at any given time. Replace the batteries in my key fob, replaced car battery...controls on driver side for the door locks will not work to unlock or lock the door when pressed. Control on passenger side for unlocking and locking door will not work. Doors unlock by themselves and lock while driving

I noticed recently my 2007 Nitro would not lock using the door button nor the keyfob. During the lock command, headlights flash and horn goes off in a short burst. All along I thought doors were locking. Physically checking if the door was locked, it WASN'T locked. Therefore I don't know how long this problem has been. It's been a false sense of security: all this time, leaving valuables in the vehicle that has been unlocked.

I took the vehicle to repair shop. After several days and and some expense (I'll pick up the vehicle from the shop later today), my Nitro is not fixed. The mechanic advised me to contact a dealer for this repair. I called a dealer a while ago today if there is a recall on this security related lock problem. They told me there is none. I'd like to place a complaint to the manufacturer on this lock problem. I noticed on the blogs, this problem is wide spread. I can go about placing this complaint?

I love my Dodge Nitro, and I have had no major problems until I was easily over 100,000 miles but this problem with the door locks not working and the trunk area not being locked really sucks! The dealership told me it would cost over $700 to replace the TIPM in order to resolve this problem. I think this is just crazy since Dodge is well aware of the TIPM problems in their vehicles. I think this should be a recalled item that Dodge should be required to replace free of charge, since they seem to continue to sell defective products. I guess it will be time to stop buying Dodge vehicles and discourage others from buying dodge as well. What a disappointment :(

Had play in my steering and dealer fixed. Control panel for windows/locks on driver side-button broke off and had to replace whole panel. Inside driver door handle broke off-costs me $169. not covered by warranty. Now warranty gone and passenger door handle broke off. Key will not open doors or lock doors, and yes the battery is new. Passenger airbag light now on. What next? Any suggestion?

Fix this issue on a recall. That is the only possible solution.

After dealing with 6 other electrical issues, the car fails to lock anymore. Either by pressing the buttons on the doors or by using the key fob, however the car will still unlock. Either way this is a serious security issue since the trunk/ back door does not have an actual lock and stays unlocked while this issue is going on. On occasion the lock buttons work, but right now it seems hopeless.

There should be a recall on this issue, this is a serious problem especially since I am so accustomed to the key fob working and I could be in a hurry one day and think I locked my car, and come to find it broken into because it didn't actually lock!!!

problem #3

Dec 172010

Nitro LX V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,544 miles

Door locks of the vehicle won't open and the rear hatch! The driver side door works fine. The rest has to be opened manually! The hatch cannot be opened at all. After I took my Nitro to get the windshield wipers motor replaced upon a RECALL. The door locks did not work at all. The Dealer says they are not at fault and still want to charge me for diagnostic check-up! Not satisfied with the Nitro the railing on the top keeps popping off by itself and other issues! Believe me I think its a good looking car, but just those issues.

Automatic door locks quit working, also rear hatch will not work now? I checked the fuse and noted M38 (door locks) is blown, replaced it and it zapped it again. Not sure what to check now. There does not appear to be a bypass for the rear hatch.

It appears problem is electrical. Using the fob or the switch locks do not operate however the horn beeps and the turn signals flash once indicating the system thinks it is activating. I looked in the fuse box and found
